Sherry Fox is asking: How do you come up with the characters and their names in the game?
Hi, Anna here!
Thank you for this question! It’s so hard to answer, haha. I’ll start with how we create characters in general.
For example, let’s take Liana and Richard. They had gone through several transformations before you saw them in the game. We had changed their age, their occupations and hobbies, their outfits. We did all that work so that you, our players, could imagine this couple as someone living next door. So that you could relate to their hobbies, problems or dreams. So that you would want to be friends with them.
For minor characters, we chose a slightly different approach. The farmer, the fisherman and the pilot – these professions often appear in games and have accumulated a lot of stereotypes. But we wanted to make each of them unique in their own way, to add some interesting details that would intrigue you and make you want to know these characters better. We wanted to show you that representatives of these professions don’t have to be a cliché; they can be complex and creative too.
Choosing names is the most difficult task of all. It’s like naming an actual baby: sometimes it just pops up in your head, maybe as a reference to a famous person or character; sometimes you have to look up lists of names and try each of them one by one. In any case, we always read the names looking at the character’s portrait and at some point we realize: That’s it! This puzzle piece fits! We add the name to the character’s card, and then you meet them.
If you want to know more about each character, please don’t hesitate to ask questions. Like all parents, we love talking about our “children”!
