✨🖼Hi everyone, Supercity’s Art Team here! We are thrilled to hear that you want to see more megabuildings! Today we’ll tell you about our work on them and what megabuilding you can expect next.
✨It’s no secret that for a long time now, players have been dreaming of some sort of “warehouse” buildings that could fuse several regular buildings into one and combine their profits. The moment we started thinking about the megabuilding feature, we knew that we would be adding many objects of this type to the game, so we needed to come up with a set of principles to follow when developing all of them.
✨We started with the definition of these objects: megabuildings are buildings that can produce resources for several regular buildings of the same kind. Players should be able to understand that they are looking at a bigger version of a farm, a flower shop, or some other building.
✨To maintain continuity, we’ve decided to develop the designs of megabuildings based on the original buildings, as if you’ve actually expanded the object that you already had. We normally increase the size a little so that megabuildings can stand out in the city and look more impressive, but at the same time, we keep elements and color schemes of the original buildings to make megabuildings easily recognizable.
✨Developing megabuilding designs is not easy. For example, while developing the megafarm, we ran into some technical limitations that affected our design. We had to keep crops growth animations, so we couldn’t change the size and placement of the crop patches, we could only adjust their color and tone.
✨However, we managed to express the increased production capacity of the new megabuilding by expanding the ground floor of the farmhouse and adding new elements. This way, we highlighted the megabuilding, but also kept it recognizable thanks to the familiar silhouette and color scheme. We also freshened up the building’s look to match newer buildings in the game: we updated the textures and details – the roof, the windows, the doors, and the plants. We also adjusted the farmhouse’s proportions and added the open barn doors for visual balance.
✨And finally, the news you’ve been waiting for: the next megabuilding to be added to the game is Construction Megafactory! So far, it has been the hardest megabuilding to design, because the original factory contains a lot of complex elements. It’s also very big, so making it significantly bigger did not seem right: megabuildings are supposed to save space on the map.
✨At first, we tried looking for a different arrangement of elements within the building: we experimented with tower and truck parking placement, tried various solutions for the top floor. But soon enough, it became clear that rearranging the main elements results in the building becoming unrecognizable. This is why we chose the version that more or less mirrored the original composition.
✨It was for the same reason that we decided to keep many of the original colors: the green roofs, the bright yellow of the chimneys and containers, the red trucks and the blue and white of the towers. However, we freshened up the materials of the wall, updated the loading area, and added a bright sign above the entrance. It all resulted in a design that looks more impressive, solid and expensive. It’s easy to believe that it can produce more construction materials than the original building does. Mission accomplished! The new megafactory will soon appear in the game – stay tuned for the announcement! 🏗
✨While working on the megabuildings, we thought it would be great to update the original buildings as well, since so many of them were created a long time ago and now look very out of place next to newer buildings.
