Not far from a big city there is a mysterious forest. This is where, among the amazing trees and flowers, dryads live. But who are dryads? Nobody can tell for sure. These magical creatures are said to have come into being alongside the natural world to guard it. Dryads are rarely encountered by people since the enigmatic forest is hidden from view by magic.

The dryads have their own School. Here, the young dryads learn from the adult dryads Rovana and Morea how to utilize magic and preserve the natural order. The School welcomes new pupils in September. That was, at least, the situation up until today.

No one knows exactly why the magical protection weakened, but one day at the beginning of summer, people saw the mysterious forest.

‘Mum,’ said the boy, ‘there is a forest beyond the road. Look, there is something glowing behind the trees!’

‘What are you saying, dear, there was never a forest there,’ at these words the woman looked up and gasped.

‘You see, you see, Mum, it really is there. Let’s go there, please!’ The boy pulled the woman by the hand.

The mother and son went into the forest slowly. They could see lights in the trees above them. The grass was as soft as a cloud, and there was a sweet smell in the air.

‘Mum, look at these flowers!’

The mother and son stopped in front of a flowering bush. The flowers’ unusual blue petals framed their bright pink centres. The flowers gave off a golden glow. The boy reached out to grab a flower.

‘Wait, dear,’ said the woman, ‘is it really okay to pick flowers like that?’

‘Mum, but these are for you! And I’ll only pick one… There are so many of them here!’ 

‘Well, I don’t think it’s too bad to pick one flower. But we won’t pick any more, okay?’

The boy picked a flower for his mother, and soon the woman and her son left the forest. But they told their friends about the forest, and they told their friends. The mother and son’s story soon made it to the news. People began to come to the forest.

The dryads Rovana and Morea went back to the forest in autumn as the leaves began to change colour. Morea felt enraged and Rovana sobbed when they discovered the forest was trashy and magically barren. They were at a loss as to what to do…
