A little shopping history
The first famous self-service grocery store opened in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1916. Before that, shoppers usually gave their list to a clerk, and the clerk collected the goods for them. This store changed the whole shopping experience by letting customers walk through the store and choose products themselves.
One of the most impressive grocery destinations today is Jungle Jim’s International Market in Ohio, USA. Its stores offer more than 200,000 square feet of shopping space and hundreds of thousands of products from around the world — almost like a food adventure park.
